Product Details
Experience the magic of the Caribbean island nation of Dominica during a week long Intermediate class and freediving retreat! This combo PFI Intermediate (40M) certification class and turn-key freediving retreat with instructor Lance Lee Davis includes ACCOMMODATION, TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORT, TO/FROM SCHEDULED CLASSES AND DIVES, AND SELECT MEALS.
Lodging will be spread across two spacious apartments of 6 total bedrooms, with no more than 2 students per bedroom (you can have your own room for an extra $200 and even bring a non-diving guest to stay in your room). We'll be in the village of Soufriere, which is short walking distance to our training site and small cafes and markets. If you would like to stay on the island past the date of your class, I can help arrange lodging. There are direct flights to Dominica, from Miami, via American Airlines with round trip tickets from LAX in the neighborhood of $1000. Spearfishing is excellent on Dominica but Soufriere is in a marine preserve so only lionfish may be taken there. Several guides and captains on the island do run affordable charters, and we can provide recommendations. Note, if you opt to pay extra for a private room and also bring a non-diving guest, meals and excursions are NOT included for your guest.
During the class students will dive up to 40M (132') and do static breathholds with no time limit. Freedive specific equipment is required, including wetsuit. The water is warm but we will be spending hours at a time in the ocean so either a 0.5mm - 3mm freediving wetsuit is recommended, or 'shorty' type wetsuit.
Total package cost is $1650. To register and secure your spot, pay $825 nonrefundable deposit today (after paying the deposit, any change of date fee is $100 and dependent on availability). Balance is due 48 hours before the start of class. After registering you will receive and email with additional information about the class, e-learning code, and a link to pay your balance.
What to do to prepare for the class? Before the class, checkout the 'EQ 101' article on my blog (https://www.socalspearit.com/single-post/2018/05/07/Equalizing-Your-Ears-101). Most students find it very beneficial to do a little bit of ear homework before the class. Equalizing ability (not breathhold!) is the most common limiting factor for students when it comes to ocean work.
