Product Details

Enjoy a long rustic weekend of diving on Catalina Island! This is a PFI Freediver certification class, conducted from the Two Harbors campground, which is a ten minute walk from the Two Harbors village and ferry dock. You must secure your own lodging and transportation to island--Catalina Express Ferry, Two Harbors/San Pedro route (https://catalinaexpress.com/schedule-fares/) and campsite (https://app.fireflyreservations.com/reserve/proper...) , or come on your own boat and meet us at the beach of Little Fisherman's Cove at the base of the campground. September dive conditions and water temperatures are some of the best of the year, and unlike summer months, the campsites are easy to book and uncrowded. The two Harbors Campsite has fresh water showers and--if you don't fancy bringing all your own camping gear--comfortable tent cabins which sleep six and include cots and gas stoves. In the nearby village there is a general store and a few small restaurants.

LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION TO THE ISLAND IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS CLASS. EVEN IF DIVING OUTSIDE SCHEDULED CLASS TIMES YOU MUST HAVE A BUDDY IN THE WATER WITH YOU.

Class will be taught by instructor Lance Lee Davis. Students will dive up to 20M (66') and do statics breathholds of up to 4 minutes. Total class cost is $700. This is a three day class, from Saturday to Monday. We'll spend the first two days working on safety and technical freedive skills, holding our class sessions in one of the tent cabins and 'pool' portion off the beach at Little Fisherman's Cove. Over the next two days we'll be hosting 6 open water sessions, and students can do 3 sessions out of the six, in groups of three, including some short exploration runs on on an inflatable boat. Feel free to bring your own spearguns or cameras along for this. To register and secure your spot, pay $350.00 nonrefundable deposit today. Balance is due at the start of class. After registering, within about a week of class start, you will receive an email with additional information about the class, an e-learning code, as well as a link to pay your balance. After registering, any of change of date is subject to availability and a $100 fee.

YOU MUST BRING ALL YOUR OWN FREEDIVING EQUIPMENT WITH YOU--THERE WILL BE NOWHERE TO REALISTICALLY RENT OR PUCHASE FREEDIVE SPECIFIC GEAR IN TWO HARBORS. Spear America Redondo, the shop which hosts many of our classes will be happy to assist you and kit you out if you visit them ahead of time. A warm, freedive specific wetsuit is recommended for this time of year.

What to do to prepare for the class? Before the class, checkout the 'EQ 101' article on my blog (https://www.socalspearit.com/single-post/2018/05/07/Equalizing-Your-Ears-101). Most students find it very beneficial to do a little bit of ear homework before the class. Equalizing ability (not breathhold!) is the most common limiting factor for students when it comes to ocean work.
